    15-Day Self-Drive Itinerary

    Day 1: Arrive in Windhoek

    A member of the PTS team meets you in Windhoek and takes you to Olive Grove Guesthouse. Rest after your flight and prepare for the drive ahead.

    Days 2 and 3: Windhoek to Swakopmund

    Drive to the coastal town of Swakopmund. Brigadoon Boutique Guesthouse is close to the beachside restaurants and the town lighthouse.

    You have a full day for activities in Swakopmund and Walvis Bay. One option is a 4×4 trip through the dunes to Sandwich Harbour.

    Day 4: Swakopmund to Spitzkoppe

    Drive to Spitzkoppe in southern Damaraland. It is a group of granite rock formations in the plains and one of the PTS team’s favourite places in Namibia.

    Day 5: Spitzkoppe to Mowani, Damaraland

    Drive north into Damaraland. The Mowani campsites sit between large boulders. Use them as a base to visit the rock art at Twyfelfontein.

    Day 6: Damaraland to Etosha National Park

    Drive to Etosha National Park. Etosha Safari Lodge is a short drive from Anderson’s Gate.

    Days 7 and 8: Etosha to Onguma

    Start early and do a game drive through Etosha. Leave the park by the Von Lindequist Gate on the eastern side. Onguma Reserve is a few minutes from the gate. You camp at one of its two campsites.

    Day 9: Onguma to Rundu

    Drive to Rundu and Hakusembe River Lodge. The lodge sits above the Okavango floodplain. Relax on the floating deck and watch the birds.

    Day 10: Rundu to Nunda, Caprivi Strip

    Continue along the Caprivi Strip to Nunda Campsite, near Divundu. The campsite is on the Okavango River, close to Mahango National Park. The Hambukushu people live in this area.

    Day 11: Nunda to Nambwa, Caprivi Strip

    Drive to Nambwa Campsite. It has four campsites, each under a Jackalberry, Strangler Fig, Leadwood or Knobthorn tree. They are just behind the Kwando River’s Long Lagoon. Game often walks through the camp.

    Day 12: Caprivi Strip to Muchenje, Botswana

    Cross the border into Botswana and drive to Muchenje Campsite, just outside Chobe National Park. The family-run campsite has spacious, shaded sites. The Ngoma entrance gate to Chobe is 5 minutes away.

    Days 13 and 14: Chobe to Livingstone, Zambia

    Cross the border from Botswana into Zambia and drive to The Woodlands at Waterberry Lodge on the banks of the Zambezi River. Take a day trip to Victoria Falls.

    You are transferred to Livingstone Airport in good time for your flight home.

    Drive north to Onguma Reserve on the edge of Etosha National Park. You stay at Leadwood or Tamboti campsite. Both are good bases for Onguma Reserve and Etosha.

    Spend the day on a self-drive game drive in Etosha National Park. Then camp at Etosha Trading Post, about 7 km from Anderson’s Gate. Stock up on food and fuel here before Damaraland.

    Day 6: Etosha to Hoada, Damaraland

    Drive to Hoada Campsite in Damaraland. The campsite has a pool.

    Days 7 and 8: Mowani, Damaraland

    Drive north into Damaraland and camp at Mowani. From here you can visit the Twyfelfontein rock engravings, the Petrified Forest and the Damara Living Museum. The museum shows traditional Damara culture.

    Day 9: Spitzkoppe

    Drive to Spitzkoppe, a group of granite domes in the plains. Climb to Bushman’s Paradise, a small basin between the domes. You can see San rock paintings there and look out over the plains.

    Day 10: Swakopmund

    Take a break from camping at Desert Breeze, on the edge of Swakopmund and overlooking the dunes. Buy fresh food and fuel. Join an activity such as a boat trip, kayaking or Tommy’s Living Desert Tour.

    Day 11: Swakopmund to Sossusvlei

    Start early and drive south to Sossusvlei. Camp at Sesriem so you can reach the dunes first thing in the morning.

    Explore the Sossusvlei dunes for as long as you like. Then drive to Namibgrens Guest Farm near Rehoboth. The route crosses the Spreetshoogte Pass, which has wide views.

    Drive to Windhoek and return your vehicle. Spend your last night at River Crossing Lodge.
