12-Day Self-Drive Itinerary
Day 1: Windhoek to Okonjima Nature Reserve
Collect your 4×4 in Windhoek and drive north to Okonjima Nature Reserve. Set up your rooftop tent at the campsite.
Overnight: Okonjima Campsite
Days 2 and 3: Etosha National Park
Drive to Etosha National Park. Self-drive at your own pace and stop at the waterholes.
Overnight: Tamboti Campsite
Day 4: Etosha National Park, Okaukuejo
Spend another day in Etosha. In the evening, visit the Okaukuejo waterhole.
Overnight: Okaukuejo Campsite
Day 5: Etosha to Palmwag
Leave Etosha and drive west into Damaraland. Explore the Palmwag area and look for desert-adapted wildlife.
Overnight: Palmwag Campsite
Day 6: Palmwag to Mowani
Drive through Damaraland to the Mowani area. Visit the Twyfelfontein rock engravings. Look for desert-adapted elephants.
Overnight: Mowani Campsite
Day 7: Mowani to Spitzkoppe
Drive south to the Spitzkoppe mountains. Walk around the granite formations and watch the sunset.
Overnight: Spitzkoppe Campsite
Days 8 and 9: Spitzkoppe to Swakopmund
Drive to Swakopmund on the Atlantic coast. Visit Walvis Bay Lagoon to see flamingos and marine life. Spend time in the town’s cafés, shops and historic centre.
Overnight: Brigadoon Guesthouse
Days 10 and 11: Swakopmund to the Namib Desert
Drive into the Namib Desert and set up camp. Start early for a sunrise drive to Sossusvlei, Deadvlei and Dune 45. Explore the dunes at your own pace.
Overnight: Namib Desert Campsite
Day 12: Namib Desert to Windhoek
Eat breakfast and drive back to Windhoek. Return the 4×4, then go to Hosea Kutako International Airport for your onward flight.
